Roles

Is the script editor's role different now to how it was in the classic series ? It seemed that they used to have a much more important role in shaping the overall storylines - something which is now more part of the showrunner's role. -- Beardouk talk to me 18:17, July 12, 2012 (UTC)

Yes. Basically they used to control the creative direction of the show, whilst the producer handled the finances. That's an oversimplification, and the best pairings of script editors and producers worked as a team on all aspects.
Nowadays the script editor just creates the shooting scripts under the management of the "showrunner". This job used to be carried out by the director, which is why a Maloney story would look different from a Camfield story, and why they all look the same nowadays.
The first script editors were actually titled "story editor", which might give a bit more indication of their creative input.165.225.80.225talk to me 14:45, October 18, 2017 (UTC)

Tomb of the Cybermen

Poor old Victor Pemberton, airbrushed from history like this! Surely it's common knowledge that Peter Bryant produced this story as a trial, and Victor Pemberton was the script editor for this story. 165.225.80.225talk to me 14:38, October 18, 2017 (UTC)

Over a year has passed, and Peter Bryant is still listed as the script editor for Tomb. Never mind, Victor, at least the Tomb of the Cybermen article correctly credits you as script editor!...165.225.76.55talk to me 13:35, December 12, 2018 (UTC)

K9 and Company

Currently this shows a list of selected Sarah Jane adventures, but nothing for A Girl's Best Friend.165.225.76.70talk to me 14:39, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
